Back in the 70's, when I was in art school, conceptual art was big. Execution was not as important as the idea behind it. One of my art instructors,
Salvatore Federico, told us about an artist in New York who made minimalist cubes by calling up a fabrication company and giving them directions over the phone. But is it art? Yes. Tony Smith did quite well with that.
Realism should show something a camera can't, otherwise, what's the point? So much has been done. There's such a plethora of objects available. Composing is all that's left really. Composition and the idea, or concept is what makes art. Art is original. Art says something. Art is a personal journey. Anything else is just fancy illustration.
