Further iPhoneography Filter Art

I'm definitely addicted to futzing around with filters. Vintique has some nice ones but the app keeps crashing and won't save higher resolution images (even though they are now free to save).

Camera+ crashes constantly so I have deleted it even though I paid to get the "I love Analog" and "Hollywood" filters ... oh, and for the app. I hope future updates will fix it.

In the meantime, here's what I made with Snapseed, Vintique, and FrameURLife.
Art made with ArtStudio Lite (iPhone 4S).

Above artwork modified with Snapseed.

Above artwork framed and modified in FrameUrLife.

I don't remember how this started out.
Whatever it was I modified it in Snapseed.

Photo snapped with iPhone native camera
and then filtered with Vintique.

looking for an oil paint filter

Alien Skin make a nice bunch of filters under the title of Snap Art 3; one of which is oil painting. I'm still dithering about whether or not to use Photoshop since CS3 (which I own) is outdated and going defunct, and Photoshop CC (PSCC) is more than my machine can handle (not enough RAM for the 3D filter).

I have a set of actions that use the Oil Paint filter in PSCC which is not a part of CS3, so I tried to find an old one and Alien Skin is what I came up with. I am amazed at what these plug in do in the default settings. Here's a couple of examples (in close up).
Default "Oil Paint, Abstract (colorful)" filter with
a minor tweak of making the strokes shorter.

Default "Oil Paint" filter with no tweaks. Dig the texture!
These filters are to supposed to require PS CS4. But they work in my CS3.

Still undecided.

another one

Still playing with ArtRage. Although, I've nearly convinced myself that I need Photoshop, at the very least. This comes from watching brave, professional artists give away their processes, tips, and tricks for free on CreativeLive. I love it!

iDraw vs Art Rage

Showing all the brushes and some stickers and
a bit of glitter. Too much fun!
I prefer Art Rage. It makes amazing brushes and brush work. It opens Adobe Photoshop (PS) files (which is useful for my legacy art). It's easy to use and fun.

I suppose iDraw is better for vector and opens Adobe Illustrator (IL) files (another legacy file, of which I have many).

I don't really want both. I may not have a choice. Still, together they are a lot cheaper than subscribing to PS and IL.

Brushes are what I need to be expressive. Vector is very good for detailed, fussy work. Brushes are more spontaneous. Yet another plus: Art Rage works well with my Wacom tablet and pen.

ack

After hours of searching for the perfect sleeveless tee shirt knitting pattern for Lion Brand Recycled Cotton, contemplating pattern design, taking my measurements, and pondering the rectitude of the universe, I made this. It seems a lot more centered and peaceful than I feel.
Having a lot of difficulty accepting life as it is. Hoping for improvement. I believe part of the issue is the wretched humidity and heat outside. Mustn't grumble, though. It was lovely last week right through the weekend with cool and dry nights in the 60s. Change. Can't live with it. Can't live without it.

Nosey Adobe

No. No, I don't have to sign in. And it's none of your business
when or how often I use your software.
Exactly what you don't want to see when booting up the computer: a software application login screen that you can't quit. I can force quit, but that's not the point. No software should pop to the front of my computer unless I asked it to. I did not give Adobe permission to place this screen on my computer. At least, not to my knowledge.

I'd like to find another software that lets me be an artist freely and professionally without all the passwords and locking-up that Adobe does. However, nothing is as good as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator are. As industry standards they make it difficult to use anything else.

I like to make comparisons to pre-computer tools. So, for example, if I had purchased a set of brushes and oils from Adobe, it would mean I could only use them if I unlocked them with a password and then only used them in one location. They would have to know when I used my supplies and for how long. (This is what logging in does, tracking where the software is being used, when, and by whom.) I would be unable to donate or gift my used brushes and partially emptied oil tubes. In fact, the only thing I could do that didn't require their consent would be to trash my supplies.

The first joy I had from computer programs was the unending supply of art tools. No more running out to the art shop when my pastels were worn down. No more last minute paint purchases when the tube emptied sooner than expected. No more broken erasers or dull pencils.

Adobe has squeezed that joy right out of their programs.
